James Kambeitz

Director / Cinematographer / Host

James Kambeitz is a film director, writer, editor and cinematographer with a Graduate Degree in Cinematography from the Polish National Film School and a Master’s Degree in English Composition and Film Theory from the University of North Dakota.

Kambeitz studied in India with the Paramaguru of Ashtanga Yoga, Sharath Jois, and subsequently co-founded Upward Spiral Films to write, direct and produce the films “Ashtanga Primary Series with Basia Lipska,” “Prenatal Yoga Flow with Basia Lipska,” and “Mysore Magic: Yoga at the Source,” a film about the home of Ashtanga Yoga, which is being distributed in over 60 countries. Kambeitz co-founded the Dakota Digital Film Festival and has produced over 500 television
programs while working as a Production Manager at Dakota Media Access.

During the height of the No-DAPL conflict, Kambeitz regularly traveled to Standing Rock to document what was happening in real time. He’s earned the confidence and trust of sources throughout the communities of Standing Rock and North Dakota, with exclusive access to documentary participants. Kambeitz was born and currently resides in Bismarck, ND.
